Creative Handicrafts and its Founder Isabel Martin Alonso were awarded the prestigious Premio Principe de Viana de la Solidaridad, 2010, on the 21st of April, 2010. The Jury for this award consisted of Mr. Miguel Indurain (Chair of the jury), Mr. Miguel Angel Argal, Ms. Maria Isabel Garcia Malo, Mr. Alfonso Garcia Liberal, Ms. Marina Navarro, Mr. Eduard Soler and Mr. Olivier Consolo.
The Jury while declaring the award commented that it was a unanimous decision to grant this award to Creative Handicrafts and its founder Sr. Isabel Martin
The award has been granted to Creative Handicrafts for its 25 years of incessant work for the empowerment of women in the slum communities through skill training and Fair Trade.
The award consisted of a citation and a cash prize of 40000 Euros.
Sr. Isabel Martin, the founder of Creative Handicrafts, received the award on 9th June, 2010 at grand function organized by the Government of Navarra, Spain in Pamplona from the hands of the Prince of Asturias (Spain).
In her address after the receipt of the award Sr. Isabel said, “Thank you for this valuable prize; it is an acknowledgment for Fair Trade, acknowledgment for individuals and organizations that strive to bring half the population in the world out of absolute poverty. I believe Fair Trade is solidarity and fair trade is the way to bring equity in the world. Every purchase that we do should make the life of someone.” She also thanked the organizations that supported wholeheartedly for the past 25 years and for presenting and supporting us for this award.
Creative Handicrafts was presented for this award by Intermon Oxfam and Tramundi, Spain and had the total backing of the Fair Trade Fraternity
